Something compelled me to create this sculpture. One of my more difficult pieces, as it is a single unit of solid (and heavy!) steel. As with many of my larger pieces, at times it was suspended by crane while heated, bent, and twisted the metal into shape. Though I was thinking of the sun the whole time I was working on it, in the end it didn't really look like a sun to me.

I showed it to a friend, an art patron and art lover who told me it was clearly a beautiful sunflower. I laughed and agreed, thinking how it's possible to do something well, without knowing exactly what it is we're doing.
